Today's dismissal at UMPS
Dear
Parents/Guardians,
Due to the
challenging weather and icy parking lot conditions, we are making some changes
for today only for student pick up.
The
parking lot and front loop are closed for pick up due to ice and snow. All parents picking up
their children will have to park on the road and walk in. All
students will be dismissed through the front door, the parking lot door or the
East door. No one will be dismissed through the back of the school.
You can pick up your children at the front of the building.
All
kindergarten students
will be dismissed through the front doors as well. Do not go to the pens
to pick them up. We will begin dismissal for FDK students at 2:50 for
today only. Please park on the road and walk to meet your child at the
front doors.
Thank you for
your cooperation as we endeavor to keep everyone safe during these difficult
weather conditions. Our parking lot and front loop will hopefully be
plowed by tomorrow.
Inclement weather and icy sidewalk, loop and parking lot
All buses and vans are cancelled for Monday, April 16, 2018 due to freezing rain. Please take extreme caution if students are coming to school as sidewalks, bus loop and parking lot are very icy.

Class Placements 2018/2019
Class Placements 2018/2019
Every year in late
May, we organize classes for the following year. Input is appreciated
from parents when we are making these placement decisions. Our main
objective is to create classes that will provide the optimum learning
environment for everyone.
We recognize that
children have their own learning styles. We appreciate that parents have
valuable information to share with us as we make placement decisions based on
children’s capabilities, gender, work habits and behaviours.
Teachers have the
benefit of knowing the children with whom they are currently working. We
rely on their professional decisions. If, however, you have information
or suggestions that will help teachers and admin make an appropriate placement,
please write a note or email to the Principal, Alison Hall, before May 15th, 2018. Requests for certain
teachers will not be considered, rather please indicate the learning style
or classroom structure which would be most appropriate for your child.
When teachers get together to create new class lists, they will use this
information to help them make their final decisions. Requests for class
placements will be considered as part of the input for these meetings but are
not a guarantee of the final placement.
We do our best each
year to balance the amount of times that a student is in a combined grade,
however, just because a student was in a combined grade one year, it does not
guarantee that they will be in straight grade the following year.
Thank you very much
for your consideration and input.

International Day of Pink - April 11
Wear Pink on April 11th
April 11, 2018 is the
International Day of Pink. It is a day when communities across Canada and
across the world unite to celebrate diversity and raise awareness about the
need to stop homophobia, transphobia, discrimination and all forms of bullying.
On this annual day in April, individuals wear pink to show respect for
diversity and to demonstrate support for learning and working environments
which are safe and inclusive of people from all different backgrounds.

Geese at UMPS
Please be
aware that we have a family of Canadian geese who have moved onto school
property by the smaller FDK pen and built a nest.
As a
result, we have sectioned off the playground to ensure student safety as the
geese are sometimes agitated by people walking by.We have
also contacted animal control to remove it safely so that the family does not
get hurt in the process. This could
take up to 5 days. Please avoid the area in the meantime.
Thank you
for your cooperation.
Reminder : No Pizza for April 6th and 13th
Please be reminded that there will be NO pizza for this and next Friday (April 6 & 13th) due to Religious Days. Students need to bring their own lunch.
Thank you!
