Mural Painting

Something exciting is happening at UMPS! Our Student Equity Leadership Team has spearheaded a mural painting project in our of our upstairs stairwell. The goal of the project is to celebrate UMPS’s shared values around ensuring that every child and family in our community feels safe, included and valued. The mural design was a joint effort between a local artist, Cindy Scaife and our student leadership team. The Equity Team went to various classrooms and asked the students what it means to belong and to be included. With that feedback, they sat with our artist and our Board Art teacher consultants and developed the plan for the design, how to include others in the actual creation and how to promote the ideals and values we collectively hope this mural showcases.

Here are some pictures taken on the first day. Stay tuned for updates as we will post our progress and then the finished product. Congratulations to our Student Equity Leadership Team for their initiative and passion to support our school’s equity goals.  Thank you to School Council who has agreed to subsidize part of the costs through their fundraising.

Class Placements

Dear Parents/Guardians,

It is hard to believe that we are at the time of year to consider class placements for our students for next year.  This year has gone by so quickly!

In order to support our class placement process, we ask that should parents have input that they would like us to consider when placing students in home rooms, that they write a letter or an email and send it to the attention of the Principal or Vice-Principal (unionville.meadows.ps@yrdsb.ca).

These requests must come through the office and not through the classroom teachers.

The kind of input we appreciate is about your child’s particular learning style and how that might be addressed in a classroom setting.  We also like to have parents' perspectives on social issues that might impact the learning environment positively or negatively.

We do not accept requests for particular teachers, however, if there is something you would like to discuss with the admin team, please make an appointment to come in and see us.

Due to the nature of our staffing requirements, we will be having both straight and combined grades next year. We do look carefully at which students needs are best met in both of these environments and we try and balance those needs across your child’s time with us.

We accept letters requesting either combined or straight class placements, however, the final decision on placements are at the discretion of the school team.

Pizza Lunch (date change)

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Pizza lunch will be on Thursday, April 25, 2019 (THIS THURSDAY NOT FRIDAY). Friday, April 26, 2019 is a Religious Faith Day. As per Board Policy, no special events are allowed to occur on such a day. 

Your child will get pizza on Thursday this week if they ordered pizza.  

PLEASE ENSURE YOUR CHILD BRINGS A LUNCH THIS FRIDAY.

Pizza Lunch Ordering Through School Cash Online Re-Opened (ONE TIME ONLY!)

@UMPSMarkham School Cash Online will be open until Wednesday, March 6/19 at 11:59PM for PIZZA ORDERS on Fridays until April 26/19. We will only be re-opening School Cash Online this time as pizza lunch orders are optional and were opened up already in the past for this order.
